Nena's debut album "NENA" was released in 1983 and quickly conquered the German charts with numerous hit singles.
„Nur Geträumt“, „Leuchtturm“, „99 Luftballons“99 Luftballons”, this album brought favorite songs for eternity to more than one generation. In 1984, the legendary song "99 Luftballons" became a global hit and cemented Nena's place in international music history.
Nena: “Our guitarist Carlo Karges had the vision for the song when we were with the band at a Rolling Stones concert in Berlin in 1982. At the end of the show, the Stones released balloons that the wind carried towards the Wall and the GDR. Looking at this powerful image, Carlo asked himself what could happen if someone misunderstood it. He wrote the text that same night and showed it to me in the rehearsal room the next day. Just reading the lines sent shivers down my spine and I immediately wanted to sing it. From then on it was unstoppable(: ... And as long as I'm on stage, there won't be a Nena concert without the balloons."
Now, a good 40 years later, Nena and BMG are celebrating the release of their debut album a special anniversary edition. All original titles have been lovingly remastered from the original tapes to ensure excellent sound quality and to make the spirit of that time true to the original. In addition to the remastered NENA album, the anniversary edition contains a second long player with further unreleased material: In addition to AMOUR CANDIDE, a version of the song “Nur Geträumt” that appeared in the rock n roll archives and was sung in French in 1983, fans can look forward to spectacularly energetic and previously unheard live tracks from Nena’s concerts in 1984, as well as rare B-sides.
This comprehensive and stylishly compiled anniversary edition gives old and new fans the opportunity to rediscover the magic of this legendary album.
